Amazon halts Blue Jay robotics project after less than six months

Amazon has discontinued its Blue Jay robotics project less than six months after its debut. Blue Jay, a multi-armed robot designed to sort and move packages in same-day delivery warehouses, was unveiled in October 2025 and tested at a South Carolina facility. Although initially presented as a new operational technology, Amazon later clarified that Blue Jay was a prototype. The company attributed the rapid development of Blue Jay—about a year, faster than previous robots—to advances in AI. Despite halting Blue Jay, Amazon plans to repurpose the core technology developed for the robot in other robotics manipulation programs. Employees who worked on Blue Jay will be reassigned to different projects. Amazon emphasized that it continues to experiment with robotics to improve customer experience and workplace safety and efficiency. This move follows the introduction of other warehouse robots like Vulcan, which features dual arms for rearranging items and uses tactile sensing trained on real-world data. Amazon’s robotics efforts date back to its 2012 acquisition of Kiva Systems, which laid
