Amazon just bought a startup making kid-size humanoid robots

Amazon has acquired Fauna Robotics, a two-year-old startup founded by former Meta and Google engineers that develops kid-size humanoid robots. Although the financial terms were not disclosed, Fauna’s team, including its founders, will join Amazon’s New York City operations. Fauna recently began shipping its first product, a 59-pound humanoid robot, to select research and development partners. Amazon expressed enthusiasm about Fauna’s vision to create capable, safe, and enjoyable robots, highlighting the synergy with Amazon’s existing robotics expertise and customer trust in home devices and retail. This acquisition marks Amazon’s second robotics-related purchase in March 2026, following the acquisition of a Zurich-based autonomous robotics startup known for its stair-climbing delivery robot, also undisclosed financially. Together, these moves indicate Amazon’s strategic investment in expanding its robotics capabilities to innovate new ways to improve customer experiences and convenience.
