Read original articleIn December, electric vehicle (EV) sales in China hit a new record, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounting for 35% of the total car market and plugin vehicles reaching a 59% market share. Despite a 14% year-over-year decline in the overall market to 2.26 million units, plugin sales surged to 1.34 million units. For the full year 2025, plugin vehicles represented 54% of total auto sales, with BEVs alone at 33%, marking a significant increase from 48% and 25% respectively in 2024. This rapid growth suggests that China, the world’s largest automotive market, is on track to be fully electrified before 2035. The dominance of EVs is also reflected in the top-selling models, with fully internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles shrinking to just two in the top 10 for the year, down from four in 2024.
