Argentina, historically a laggard in EV adoption with minimal market share and high skepticism, is now rapidly increasing its EV sales. In early 2026, Argentina's battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales nearly matched the total sales of 2025, and with plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) included, the EV market share has risen to 3.6%, up from less than 0.1% a few years ago. BYD, commanding 80% of Argentina’s BEV market, is capitalizing on this growth by supplying affordable models like the Seagull (Dolphin Mini) from Brazil and the BYD Yuan Pro from China.
