The original Audi A2, produced from 1999 to 2005, was a pioneering compact car notable for its lightweight aluminum construction and exceptional fuel efficiency. Despite winning design awards and introducing innovations such as an aluminum space frame and a diesel “3L” version achieving under 3 liters per 100 km fuel consumption, the A2 struggled commercially.
