AWS is spending $50B build AI infrastructure for the US government

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a $50 billion investment to build specialized AI high-performance computing infrastructure tailored for U.S. government agencies. This initiative aims to significantly enhance federal access to AWS AI services, including Amazon SageMaker, model customization tools, Amazon Bedrock, model deployment, and Anthropic’s Claude chatbot. The project will add 1.3 gigawatts of computing power, with construction of new data centers expected to begin in 2026. AWS CEO Matt Garman emphasized that this investment will transform how federal agencies utilize supercomputing, accelerating critical missions such as cybersecurity and drug discovery, while removing technological barriers that have previously limited government AI adoption.
