This trend reflects the long-term effectiveness of B.C.’s climate policies, particularly since the introduction of the carbon tax in 2008 and the CleanBC climate plan in 2018. Despite population and economic growth, emissions have largely stabilized or decreased, underscoring the importance of maintaining and renewing CleanBC policies rather than reversing them, especially after the removal of the consumer carbon tax.
However, the report also identifies ongoing challenges, particularly in the transportation sector, which accounts for 41% of emissions.
