Chinese EV giant BYD bets on Boonray’s autonomous mining truck

Chinese electric vehicle leader BYD has invested $14.5 million in Boonray, a Chinese startup developing autonomous, battery-swapping electric mining trucks aimed at revolutionizing the mining industry with zero-emission power and advanced automation. Boonray’s team, including scientists from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has integrated Level 4 autonomous driving technology into its trucks, combining onboard sensors with fixed infrastructure like beacons to enable fully unmanned operation and battery swaps.
