Chinese firm's new hybrid EV to offer 620-mile range, retractable LiDAR

Lotus is set to launch the For‑Me plug-in hybrid SUV, which shares similar exterior dimensions with the electric Eletre but weighs between 6,735 and 6,790 pounds. The For‑Me features active aerodynamic elements, including a rear spoiler generating up to 198 pounds of downforce, and maintains a low drag coefficient of 0.26 to balance efficiency and stability. Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine combined with an unreleased hybrid-electric motor system, the SUV is expected to produce up to 952 horsepower, enabling a 0–62 mph acceleration in about three seconds and a total driving range exceeding 620 miles. A notable innovation is the introduction of a retractable LiDAR sensor, enhancing aerodynamics and advanced driver-assistance capabilities. Despite these advancements, Lotus experienced a 40% decline in global sales from January to September 2025, delivering only 4,612 vehicles, with China remaining its largest market at nearly 46%
