Venus’s environment is extremely hostile, with dense carbon dioxide, thick sulfuric acid clouds, surface pressures around 90 bar, and temperatures exceeding 460°C, which have historically hindered detailed in situ measurements. The new system addresses these challenges by combining three key functions: a filtration unit that protects instruments from corrosive sulfuric acid droplets using durable ceramics and self-cleaning thermal mechanisms; an enrichment stage that selectively removes carbon dioxide to concentrate trace gases like phosphine and ammonia; and a sophisticated laser-based spectroscopic detection unit capable of ultra-high precision measurements, including isotopic ratios critical for understanding Venus’s geological and atmospheric history.
This integrated approach not only enhances scientific capabilities by enabling more accurate detection of trace gases and isotopic compositions but also supports sustainable exploration by linking atmospheric analysis with resource extraction.
