Europe EV Sales — Record Month! - CleanTechnica

In December 2025, Europe experienced a record-breaking month for electric vehicle (EV) sales, with 453,000 plugin vehicles registered—surpassing the previous record of 412,000 units set three years earlier. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 327,000 of these registrations, marking a 57% year-over-year (YoY) increase, the highest growth rate in over two years. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) also saw a 34% YoY rise with 126,000 units registered. Overall, plugin vehicles grew by 50% YoY, the strongest growth since 2023, contributing significantly to an 8% YoY increase in the total auto market. The market share for BEVs reached 28%, while PHEVs held 11%, as traditional petrol and diesel vehicles continued to decline sharply.
