Google Maps is introducing two major updates: an AI-powered conversational feature called “Ask Maps” and an enhanced “Immersive Navigation” experience. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, Ask Maps allows users to ask complex, real-world questions in natural language, such as finding nearby charging stations without long waits or locating public tennis courts with lights. It can also assist with trip planning by suggesting stops, directions, ETAs, and insider tips based on personalized data like saved places and user preferences. This feature is currently rolling out in the U.S. and India on Android and iOS, with desktop availability coming soon. The Immersive Navigation update brings a 3D view of surroundings, including buildings, overpasses, and terrain, alongside detailed road information such as lanes, crosswalks, traffic lights, and stop signs. It offers smarter zooming and transparent building visuals to help drivers anticipate turns and lane changes. Voice guidance has been improved to sound more natural and provide clearer instructions, including explanations
