Humanoid robotics maker Sunday reaches $1.15B valuation to build household robots

Robotics company Sunday has achieved a $1.15 billion valuation following a $165 million Series B funding round led by Coatue Management, with participation from Tiger Global, Benchmark, and Bain Capital Ventures. Founded by Tony Zhao and Cheng Chi, Sunday recently emerged from stealth mode and already has a waitlist of 1,000 people interested in its product. The company aims to develop a household humanoid robot named Memo designed to assist with everyday chores such as laundry and clearing tables. The challenge Sunday seeks to overcome is longstanding in robotics: creating a robot capable of reliably handling objects with varying weights, textures, and fragility. Previous efforts have struggled largely due to insufficient training data for teaching robots these nuanced tasks. However, advances in AI technology are enabling a new generation of robotic solutions, with Sunday positioning Memo as a potential realization of the humanoid helper concept popularized by fictional characters like Rosie from “The Jetsons.” This funding round underscores growing investor confidence in the commercial viability of household humanoid
