India’s Sarvam wants to bring its AI models to feature phones, cars and smart glasses

Indian AI startup Sarvam is expanding its AI technology beyond enterprise applications to consumer devices such as Nokia feature phones, cars, and its own smart glasses. At the India AI Impact Summit, Sarvam revealed it is deploying lightweight edge AI models that occupy only megabytes of storage, run on existing phone processors, and can operate offline. In partnership with HMD, Sarvam demonstrated a conversational AI assistant on Nokia feature phones that users can activate via a dedicated button to receive local language guidance on government schemes and markets. However, it remains unclear if all AI features will function offline. Sarvam is also collaborating with Qualcomm to optimize its models for their chipsets and working with German engineering firm Bosch to integrate AI assistants into cars, though specific details were not disclosed. Additionally, the company showcased its India-designed AI smart glasses, Sarvam Kaze, described as a “builders’ device” and slated for release in May. This strategic shift from enterprise voice solutions toward consumer-facing AI products highlights Sarvam’s ambition
