The facility is expected to generate approximately 403.7 GWh annually, supplying electricity to over 214,000 Colombian households. This project represents a significant expansion of solar power in a country where hydropower currently dominates the electricity generation mix.
Constructed over 18 months, the Shangri-La project created more than 2,100 jobs, prioritizing local labor, with women comprising 22% of the workforce—exceeding initial targets for female participation. Environmentally, the solar farm is projected to offset nearly 161,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. While it is the second largest solar project in Colombia, it highlights the country’s growing commitment to diversifying its renewable energy portfolio beyond hydropower.
