Read original articleOpenAI has entered a strategic partnership with India’s Tata Group to secure 100 megawatts (MW) of AI-ready data center capacity, with plans to scale up to 1 gigawatt (GW) over time. This collaboration, part of OpenAI’s Stargate project, aims to build advanced AI infrastructure and accelerate enterprise AI adoption globally, with India as a key growth market. OpenAI will be the first customer of Tata Consultancy Services’ (TCS) HyperVault data center business, leveraging the local capacity to run its most advanced AI models domestically. This will reduce latency for Indian users and ensure compliance with data residency and security regulations, which is critical for enterprises handling sensitive data under India’s data localization laws.
Beyond infrastructure, the partnership includes deploying ChatGPT Enterprise across Tata’s workforce, starting with hundreds of thousands of TCS employees, marking one of the largest enterprise AI rollouts globally. TCS will also use OpenAI’s Codex tools to standardize AI-native software
