Polestar has introduced a new bidirectional charging feature for its Polestar 3 electric SUV in the US, starting with California. Through a partnership with home energy company dcbel and its Ara home energy system, the Polestar 3 can now supply power back to a home during outages or periods of high electricity prices. This system leverages the SUV’s 400-volt architecture to provide up to 10 days of emergency backup power, potentially cutting annual charging costs by as much as $1,300. California residents can also benefit from incentives to offset hardware and installation costs. This launch marks Polestar’s first bidirectional charging offer and aligns with a broader industry trend, as other automakers like Ford, GM, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Tesla have introduced similar vehicle-to-home capabilities recently.
