Positioned similarly to how Tesla’s Model 3 expanded Tesla’s reach, the R2 is expected to start at around $45,000, making it competitive with vehicles like the Tesla Model Y. This price point is notably lower than Rivian’s current R1T and R1S models, which start above $70,000, potentially broadening Rivian’s customer base.
Production of the R2 will begin in Rivian’s Normal, Illinois factory, which has a capacity of 215,000 vehicles and is expected to produce approximately 155,000 R2 units. Additional production will ramp up in Georgia, enabling Rivian to manufacture hundreds of thousands of these vehicles.
