Spyce, founded in 2015 by MIT graduates, developed the Infinite Kitchen system—an automated hopper-based technology for assembling food bowls—and operated two restaurants in Boston before being acquired by Sweetgreen in 2021 for about $70 million. Sweetgreen subsequently closed Spyce’s original sites to integrate and commercialize the Infinite Kitchen technology within its own restaurants, now deployed in over 20 locations nationwide with improvements in throughput, food quality, accuracy, and consistency.
The transaction involves Sweetgreen receiving $100 million in cash plus $86.4 million in Wonder’s Series C preferred stock, which it plans to reinvest in growth and profitability initiatives.
