The Indonesian state-owned defense company PT PAL Indonesia recently conducted a successful torpedo firing test from its autonomous submarine prototype, KSOT (Kapal Selam Otomatis Tanpa Awak). The submarine fired a 324 mm lightweight ‘Piranha’ torpedo with high precision during a test at the Fleet Command II Headquarters in Surabaya, East Java. The test was personally overseen by Indonesian Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and remotely monitored by President Prabowo Subianto. The KSOT, designed to enhance Indonesia’s submarine warfare capabilities, is equipped with modern sonar systems, torpedo launch capabilities, and low-stealth features. The prototype is 15 meters long, can reach speeds up to 20 knots, and operate at depths of up to 350 meters.
