Truecaller has introduced a new family protection feature that allows one person to become an admin of a family group (up to five members) to monitor and manage scam calls received by other members. The admin receives alerts about potential fraud calls and can remotely end calls on behalf of family members if they suspect a scam, though call termination is currently limited to Android users. Additional controls include blocking specific numbers and sharing blocklists, as well as permissions to monitor real-time activity like walking or driving status to avoid disturbing elderly members at unsafe times. Importantly, the admin cannot access non-spam call or SMS histories, preserving user privacy. This feature, initially tested in countries such as Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya, is now available worldwide, including in India, Truecaller’s largest market. The company is exploring AI-driven enhancements to further protect families by analyzing call content for scam indicators and automatically disconnecting suspicious calls.
