The U.S. Space Force’s Space Systems Command (SSC) has completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for the Missile Warning and Tracking (MWT) Epoch 2 program, which will deploy a constellation of 10 new satellites in Medium Earth Orbit (MEO). Positioned between 10,000 and 20,000 kilometers above Earth, these satellites will enhance global missile surveillance by detecting heat signatures of maneuvering hypersonic missiles, addressing gaps in current missile defense systems. Epoch 2 will complement the existing 12-satellite Epoch 1 constellation, creating a dense, resilient network that is difficult to disable with anti-satellite weapons. The program, developed in partnership with BAE Space & Mission Systems, has progressed rapidly, moving from contract award in May 2025 to design validation within nine months. Utilizing digital engineering tools, the team aims to complete the Critical Design Review by summer 2026, paving the way for satellite deliveries beginning in fiscal year 2029. Together
