Read original articleA team of aerospace engineers at Texas A&M University, led by Dr. Moble Benedict and known as Team Harmony, is developing QUEST, a quadrotor biplane designed to bridge the gap between small search drones and costly helicopters in emergency response. QUEST combines vertical hover capability with high-speed fixed-wing flight by tilting 90 degrees, enabling it to carry heavy payloads such as medical supplies or even people. This innovation aims to make disaster relief more affordable and efficient, addressing the limitations of current rescue vehicles. The project has already earned global recognition, including a $10,000 prize and the NASA University Innovation Award, and is advancing toward full-scale testing scheduled for February 2027 at NASA Ames.
To mitigate the risks of scaling from subscale prototypes to a full-sized aircraft, the team is creating a precise digital twin to simulate flight dynamics and troubleshoot potential issues virtually before actual flights.
